Christmas is just a few weeks days away, and as we watch the sun set on another year, we wanted to take a moment to thank everyone for another wonderful year on Topsail Island. Each year thousands of visitors experience the joy of Topsail Island and this year was no different. As we look forward to another great year, 2019, it never hurts to take a moment and consider the year we’ve had.
Sea Turtle Success
Every year all along the shores of Topsail Island sea turtles return to the nest and continue the cycle of life. The year 2018 was no different. With the help of residents, the folks at the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center, and, of course, all of our visitors we had another successful year of hatchlings. A Year of Great Fishing
For some of you Topsail Island and the surrounding waters are for one thing and one thing only… fishing, and who can blame you. This year say another awesome year for all types of fishing. Whether you are an avid surf casting enthusiast or into fly fishing the marshes, there was something hitting the lines all year round. If you are thinking about taking a fishing trip, don’t forget, just because the temperatures have cooled off doesn’t mean it isn’t a perfect time to wet a line. Hurricane Florence Update
It happens. Every once in a while a hurricane makes landfall along Topsail Island. Thankfully, these storms are rare, and generally, even when we do experience as a hurricane, it is usually a relatively weak storm. Well, as many of you know from the national news 2018 was just one of those years when Mother Nature decided it was Topsail Island’s turn to experience her fury. This September hurricane Florence gave us a little scare. Sure it looked like it was going to be a category four storm but thankfully, made landfall as a category 1. Fortunately, while we took a few licks, the storm damage was minimal. The good news is Topsail Island is all cleaned up and businesses are open. We are so appreciative of all the help and support that the Topsail Island community provided and we look forward to a great 2019 season.
