You’re all set for a great vacation. Right? But did you remember to protect your vacation investment? This week we explain everything you need to know about travel insurance and we even have a few other tips and tricks that will ensure you have a safe and fun family vacation.
Why travel insurance is a great investment
Let’s face it, even an affordable vacation represents a big investment in your family’s time and money. Unfortunately, every year vacations are interrupted by unforeseen events. There might be a death in the family or illness. There is even a chance mother nature has other plans for your vacation week. There is only one way to protect your vacation investment and that is by purchasing a travel insurance policy.
When you book your vacation with Coastline Realty Vacations, we’ll give you the option of purchasing travel insurance. This insurance is a small cost that offers big protection for your family. If you have questions about our travel insurance policy, our helpful and friendly reservationists can answer any questions you may have about the coverage but here is a quick review of the basic things travel insurance covers.

Five tips to protect your identity while traveling
Use your credit card
If you aren’t using cash while traveling, use a credit card. Credit cards are preferred over your debit card. If someone gets your debit card number, you’ll likely lose all the money in your checking account. Reversing these charges is difficult and time-consuming. If someone steals your credit card, you’ll have an easier time recouping your losses as all credit card transactions include fraud protection.
Let your bank know you are traveling
Before you leave on your trip, call your bank and credit card companies. Let them know you are going to be traveling. Most institutions are happy to monitor your accounts as they don’t want to be liable for any stolen sums.
Clean out your wallet
Do you need your checkbook and extra credit cards during vacation? Probably not. Take a moment to sanitize your wallet or purse by removing anything and everything you will not be using on your trip, especially things that are useful to criminals.
Avoid banking on public Wi-Fi
Hackers may be able to access public networks and see any information you send over public Wi-Fi, including bank account numbers, logins, and passwords. The reality is, you will likely still choose to use public networks to surf the Web, especially if you’re not sending sensitive data over Wi-Fi. If you do, it’s a good idea to set your device to forget that network when you log off.
Look for card skimmers
Card skimmers are designed to steal your sensitive banking information. Before you swipe check for loose housing, exposed wires, bulkiness and anything that looks out of the ordinary. Thieves most commonly try to install these at gas stations or ATMs. Those are all signs that someone has installed a skimmer on the machine.
